چکیده

| A design framework for space-time multiuser detectors is introduced based on the recently introduced notion of canonical space-time coordinates (CSTC). The CSTC system employs a xed set of basis signals which eliminates the need for estimating direction of arrivals (DOAs) and delays of the channel, thereby allowing signiicant reduction in receiver complexity. The proposed framework is based on a hybrid structure for multiuser detection which combines the power of centralized processing and the exibility of decentralized reception. In the rst stage, a subset of users whose spreading codes are assumed known are suppressed in a centralized fashion. The remaining interference is suppressed via the second stage in an adaptive decentralized mode. The hybrid scheme ooers a exible design framework by ooer-ing lower complexity compared to fully centralized receivers and improved adaptive performance compared to fully decentralized schemes.

Spectral Efficiency of Low-Complexity Multiuser Detectors

A family of multiuser detectors is analyzed which require neither matrix inversions nor other operations with significant complexity. The time complexity per bit of most of them is independent of the number of users. Nevertheless, their spectral efficiency for random spreading sequences is shown to be not far behind that of linear MMSE detection.

Local Maximum Likelihood Multiuser Detection for CDMA Communications

Third-generation mobile radio networks have been under intense research. Code division multiple access (CDMA) has emerged as the mainstream air interface solution for the third-generation networks. As the demand of usable bandwidth is ever increasing, multiuser detection is a necessary means for CDMA systems to reduce effect of multiple access interference and hence increase system capacity. Th...

Adaptive Subcarrier Assignment and Power Distribution in Multiuser OFDM Systems with Proportional Data Rate Requirement

A low complexity dynamic subcarrier and power allocation methodology for downlink communication in an OFDM-based multiuser environment is developed. The problem of maximizing overall capacity with constraints on total power consumption, bit error rate and data rate proportionality among users requiring different QOS specifications is formulated. Assuming perfect knowledge of the instantaneo...

Multi-access interference suppression in canonical space-time coordinates: A decentralized approach

We propose a decentralized space–time multiuser detection scheme based on the notion of canonical space–time coordinates (CSTCs) for representing the received signal. The CSTC representation provides a natural framework for decentralized multi-access interference (MAI) suppression in lower dimensional subspaces that results in complexity reduction relative to existing chip rate filtering scheme...

Hybrid Local Search Polynomial-Expanded Linear Multiuser Detectors for SIMO DS/CDMA Systems

In order to reduce computational complexity inherent to recurrent cross-correlation matrix inversion in a single-input-multiple-output (SIMO) direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) system, this work proposes a hybrid multiuser detector based on polynomial expansion (PE-MuD) followed by a low complexity local search procedure, aiming at obtaining a near-optimum multiuser bit-err...
